Red Dry Wine, Organic, Protected Geographical Indication of Lasithi

The inscription on the Monastery’s Linos (wine press), built in 1709, is the proof that the indigenous variety Liatiko has been cultivated in the vineyards of Toplou Monastery. Till nowadays, this ancient Cretan red wine is organically treated and bottled with great expertise at the Monastery’s Winery, emphasizing on its unique characteristics.

Region/Vineyard
The Vineyard contains a big amount of schist and is set on a hill, facing Toplou Monastery on the west and the sea on the north and east side.

Tasting Notes
Light Red transparent color, complex sweet scent with aromas of pomegranate, sour cherry, guava and hints of leather. Light to medium body, sour cherry aftertaste accompanied with an innate sweetness. 

Food Pairing
Foods with meat and red sauce, cooked chicken with okra and tomato sauce, grilled salmon, orzo pasta with mushrooms, barley rusk with xigalo cheese.
